As I discussed with different people (including vet), there seems to be a misconception of protein.  Here is a quick and non-technical overview on protein.

Canine 狗: Signs of Kidney Failure 腎病徵狀

Less dogs suffer kidney failure than cats; however, older dogs are at higher risks of diseases including kidney failure.  Here are some of the signs that you should watch for:

Home Urine Test - protein & PH / 簡易驗尿 - 蛋白質 及 PH

You senior dog should have his/her urine tested once in a while (at least once a year). During the year, you can also do some inexpensive home test for your dog.  Go to your neighborhood drug store to get a urine paper test for people. I recently ought one for about HK$58 with 50 tests.

As the value change over during the day, test your dog’s urine at the same time each day to determine her “normal” value.  The best time to do this is first thing in the morning, before she eats.  Urine should be tested before it hits the ground.

老狗應該要至少每年一次測試尿液。年內，你還可以為您的狗做一些價格平D的家用檢測。到你家附近的藥房購買一個人用尿液驗試紙。最近我盒了一罐約58港元有50次測試。

Protein Test The most beneficial information from the test is the protein content in the urine. PH value Urinary tract infections that cause struvite crystals to become uroliths can raise urinary pH to 8.0 or 8.5. Contact your vet if your dog’s urinary pH jumps from acid to alkaline.  Most healthy dogs have a neutral to slightly acid urinary pH between 5.5 and 7.0.	PH 值 尿道感染引起石晶體變成結石可提高尿pH值至8.0或8.5. 如果您的狗的尿pH跳躍到鹼性,  聯絡獸醫. 最健康的狗的尿液有5.5和7.0之間的中性至微酸性pH值。

Multiple Meals a Day 一日多餐制

Feeding your dogs small portions of multiple meals throughout the day is much better than having one big meal, and here are some of the benefits:

• is easier on their digestive system as they do not have to digest so much at once and never being empty for too long

Canine狗 - Mango for Arthritis? 關節炎?

Colored fruits such as Mango is rich sources of antioxidant nutrients, vitamin, minerals and fiber.    Mango is great for helping relieve arthritis pain.

Mango is a good source of vitamins A , C, and high in antioxidants.  Mango has only 11 mg of Phosphorus per 100 grams.  Low in Phosphorus, even dogs with renal failure can eat.

Canine/ 狗: No Appetite due to Kidney Disease / 由於腎臟疾病沒胃口

One of the common symptom of kidney disease is loss of appetite due to nausea.  The stomach becomes acidic and cause your dog to vomit and lose their appetite.


腎臟疾病的常見症狀之一，是由於噁心，食慾喪失。胃變成酸性，導致你的狗，嘔吐，失去食慾。

Home made remedies:

1) Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
Give 1/4 teaspoon for dogs up to 20 lbs, 1/4for every additional 20lbs up to 1 teaspoon.
Syringe in his mouth 3-4 times per day or as needed.

2) Heavy Whipping Cream: It has low phosphorus (18 mg/ 100 Kcal)
Only for non-overweight dog that does not have pancreas problem.
Give 2 ml to your dog using syringe and it should help with his appetite.

3) Feed Smaller meals


自製的措施：

1）原蘋果醋
給1 / 4茶匙高達20磅的狗，1/4for每20磅, 最多1茶匙。
在他的嘴裡注射器每天3-4次或根據需要。

2）重奶油：(奶油是低磷的 18 mg / 100 卡路里)
