Ingredients should not be in your fly repellent

Here are some of the ingredients should not be in your fly spray / repellent
  • DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide), this can rot leather and plastic and decrease skin defenses
Recent study shows that DEET is harmful to people see http://holistichorsecareasia.blogspot.com/2010/06/stop-using-chemical-insect-repellent.html

(We will update the above on an ongoing basis)

  1. Hi,HHC!
Fly repellent? I had a friend once who refused even the most basic of vacs and refused to put ANY chemicals on her show mare at all! She had the horse on high doses of garlic mixed in feed, swearing that repelled all pests and increased overall health. Her mare was beautiful and never ill. I admired her dedication in going "chemical free" but have never been brave enough to go without vacs for my mare. Also, she had to be feeding tons of garlic. When her mare got really hot she smelled of garlic. I worried about the mount of garlic this horse was getting. Good news, I could always find her at shows! :)

  2. Thank you for your comment and thank you for joining us on Facebook. Garlic probably work but a lot will have to be used. I will post a product later that have the same impact. Thanks!
