Loose work in training


Working with a horse loosely is great for building relationship.  You can see your horse reaction from the aids (verbally or gesture) you are given and you can adjust your aids accordingly.  Every horseman/woman should consider this as part of the training.



The Significance of Loose Work by Jenny Rolfe talks about training your horse using your horse most natural state, being loose; ‘In allowing a horse, to be a horse, we can become more effective as trainers’.

She talks about how to use loose work to determine the direction of training, assess the horse ability (natural movement) and the state of mind.
